The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath (Revelation 15–16)
It began with a vision ...

In Revelation 11:19 the temple of God in heaven is opened, revealing the ark of His covenant and signaling that the final phase of divine judgment is about to begin. While the seventh trumpet announces that “the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ” (Revelation 11:15), the events that lead to that kingdom are further explained in chapters 12–14.
These chapters step back to reveal the spiritual conflict behind the Tribulation: Satan cast down to earth, the rise of the Beast and False Prophet, and the persecution of those who remain faithful to God. They culminate with the announcement of the final harvest of the earth, where the wicked are gathered and thrown into the winepress of God’s wrath.
Revelation 15 resumes the scene first opened in Revelation 11:19. From the heavenly temple emerge seven angels carrying the last plagues—the final judgments through which God completes His wrath against humanity’s rebellion. Yet before these judgments are poured out, John sees a scene of victory in heaven, where those who have overcome the Beast celebrate God’s justice and sing the song of Moses and the Lamb. Chapter 16 then reveals the outpouring of these bowls of wrath upon the earth, fulfilling the judgment previously pictured in the harvest and winepress of Revelation 14:17-20.
This opening verse introduces the entire scene: the seven final plagues by which God’s wrath reaches its appointed completion. Verse 1 introduces the whole scene; verses 2–4 pause to show the victorious saints praising God; and verses 5–8 then return to the heavenly temple from which the bowl judgments proceed.
Revelation 15:1 "I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed."
-
"another great and marvelous sign" - reflects back to Revelation 12:1-5 - The Messiah comes through Israel. Satan was cast down to earth. These are moments of great importance.
-
Revelation 12:1, 3 "A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head ... Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads."
-
Woman sign:
-
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
-
Micah 5:2 "“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
-
-
Red Dragon sign:
-
Isaiah 14:12-15 "How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! ..."
-
Ezekiel 28:12-18 "... So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings ..."
-
Luke 10:18 "He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven."
-
-
-
"plagues" - reflect back to Exodus and the Egyptian plagues God used to show his power through signs and free Israel.
-
Exodus 7:3-4 "3 But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.
-
-
"completed" - Greek teleō means "brought to its full end."
THE SONG OF MOSES AND THE LAMB
Revelation 15:2 "And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God"
-
"sea of glass" - The sea of glass recalls both the heavenly throne room and the sapphire-like pavement beneath the God of Israel at Sinai, combining majesty, holiness, and covenant presence.
-
Revelation 4:6 "Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back."
-
Exodus 24:9-10 "Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up [to Mt. Sinai] 10 and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky."
-
-
"those who had been victorious" - Tribulation saints who were faithful in overcoming the beast by refusing his worship and remaining loyal to Jesus, even at the cost of suffering and, for many, martyrdom.
Revelation 15:3-4 "and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations. 4 Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed."
-
Their song comes from lived deliverance. Like Israel after the Red Sea, they praise God as those who have personally passed through oppression and now stand on the far side of His saving judgment.
-
"song of Moses" - deliverance from Egyptian armies through Red Sea crossing experience (Exodus 15)
-
"song of the Lamb" - The “song of Moses and of the Lamb” joins the first great redemption to the final one. The Exodus under Moses becomes the pattern; the deliverance accomplished by the Lamb becomes its fulfillment. Revelation presents the final defeat of evil as a greater Exodus, and the redeemed therefore sing in continuity with both Moses and Christ.
-
God alone is the Almighty sovereign over all things. Yet through the work of the Lamb, God has exalted Jesus and given Him authority over every created power. The song of Moses and of the Lamb therefore celebrates both the justice of God and the redemptive victory accomplished through Christ.
-
Psalm 2:4-6 "4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
-
Philippians 2:11 "and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
-
Revelation 4:8 "Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying: “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.”
-
-
-
"All nations will come and worship before you" - This looks ahead to the universal acknowledgment of God’s rule when His righteous acts are openly revealed and the nations are brought under His kingdom.
SEVEN ANGELS WITH SEVEN BOWLS
Revelation 15:6-7 "6 Out of the temple came the seven angels with the seven plagues. They were dressed in clean, shining linen and wore golden sashes around their chests. 7 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever."
-
"robes and sashes" - indicates those who are prepared for service in divinely-appointed roles.
-
Exodus 28:4 "These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests."
-
Revelation 1:13 "and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest."
-
Revelation 15:8 "And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed."
-
"no one could enter the temple" - As in Exodus, the sanctuary is filled with the glory of God so completely that entry is barred. The point is not merely closure, but the overwhelming manifestation of divine holiness and power as judgment proceeds to its appointed end.
-
Exodus 40:34-35 "34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle."
-
Revelation 16:1 " Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”
-
"bowls" - symbolically connected to the Old Testament concept of drink offerings (libations) and incense bowls. Instead of atonement, they offer judgment. Typically, offerings would be given toward God, but in this case, they are a curse or judgment from God. The bowls correspond to the judgment already pictured in Revelation 14, where the ripe grapes of the earth were gathered into the great winepress of God’s wrath. What was symbolized there now begins to be poured out here.
-
Exodus 25:29 "And make its plates and dishes of pure gold, as well as its pitchers and bowls for the pouring out of offerings."
-
Genesis 35:14 "Jacob set up a stone pillar at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering on it; he also poured oil on it."
- Revelation 14:19 "The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath."
-
-
"God's wrath" - (See God's Wrath) The seven bowls of Revelation 16 represent the final, concentrated outpouring of God’s wrath against a rebellious world aligned with the Beast. Like the plagues of Egypt, they expose false worship, judge oppressors, and prepare for the final deliverance of God’s people. Yet unlike the trumpet judgments, which were partial, the bowls are comprehensive and bring God’s judicial response to evil to completion. Death is the penalty for sin and it is death that satisfies the justice required by law.
- Proverbs 8:35-36 "35 For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. 36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.”
- Isaiah 24:1-20 "These reflect the condition of the earth and its wicked people of rebellion by the bowl judgments."
- Jeremiah 25:15-16, 28-29 "15 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. 16 When they drink it, they will stagger and go mad because of the sword I will send among them... 27 “Then tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword I will send among you.’ 28 But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: You must drink it! 29 See, I am beginning to bring disaster on the city that bears my Name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword on all who live on the earth, declares the Lord Almighty.’ "
- Romans 5:12 "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—"
- Romans 7:9 "Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died."
- Romans 7:24 "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?"
- 1 Corinthians 15:56 "The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law."
1ST BOWL - ON THE LAND
The miraculous signs performed by the Beast and the False Prophet (Revelation 13:13–14) cannot protect their followers from the judgment of God. Those who received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image now experience the first direct outpouring of divine wrath upon their bodies. Having aligned themselves with the Beast, they no longer share in the blessings of God but instead experience the curses that accompany rebellion. What God originally declared “very good” (Genesis 1:31) has become disfigured by sin and judgment. The painful sores symbolize the internal corruption brought about by rebellion against God. Just as the body itself becomes diseased, so humanity’s rebellion produces visible consequences in creation. The 1st Trumpet (Revelation 8:7) struck the land with fire and destruction, while the first bowl is poured out upon the land and directly afflicts the people who belong to the Beast.
Revelation 16:2 "The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image."
-
"bowl on the land"
-
The first bowl closely mirrors the sixth plague of Egypt, where festering boils afflicted the Egyptians. Just as the plagues of Egypt demonstrated God’s judgment against Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt, the bowl judgments reveal God’s judgment against the Beast and those who worship him.
-
Exodus 9:8-11 "8 Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on people and animals throughout the land.” 10 So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals. 11 The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians."
-
- The plague also echoes the covenant curses in Deuteronomy. Those who reject God’s authority experience the very judgments that Scripture warned would accompany rebellion.
- Deuteronomy 28:15, 27, 35 "15 However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you: ... 27 The Lord will afflict you with the boils of Egypt and with tumors, festering sores and the itch, from which you cannot be cured... 35 The Lord will afflict your knees and legs with painful boils that cannot be cured, spreading from the soles of your feet to the top of your head."
- When the Philistines captured the ark of the covenant, they placed it in the temple of their god Dagon as a demonstration that their god had defeated the God of Israel. In response, the Lord struck the Philistines with tumors and devastated their cities. This episode shows that those who challenge the authority of the true God experience physical judgment. In Revelation, a similar principle appears when those who worship the Beast receive painful sores as the 1st bowl of God's wrath.
- 1 Samuel 5:1, 6-9 "1 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer to Ashdod ... 6 The Lord’s hand was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation on them and afflicted them with tumors. 7 When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.” 8 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and asked them, “What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?” They answered, “Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.” So they moved the ark of the God of Israel. 9 But after they had moved it, the Lord’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic. He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors. 10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.” 11 So they called together all the rulers of the Philistines and said, “Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy on it. 12 Those who did not die were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven."
-
- "mark of the beast" - Those who once received the mark of the Beast as a sign of allegiance now bear a different mark upon their bodies—one of divine judgment.
2ND BOWL - ON THE SEAS
The seas are essential to life on earth. They provide food, sustain ecosystems, and enable commerce between nations. When the second bowl is poured out, this vital source of life becomes a source of death, demonstrating that the Creator has authority over the very systems that sustain the world. This judgment reminds humanity that the seas themselves belong to the Creator, and the One who made them has the authority to judge the world that depends upon them. The 2nd Trumpet was a foreshadow of the 2nd Bowl.
-
both dealt with the seas
-
As with the other bowl judgments, the bowls intensify the earlier trumpet judgments. What was partial in the trumpets becomes complete in the bowls.
-
2nd Trumpet: 33% of seas turned to blood - 33% of living creatures died
-
2nd Bowl: 100% of all the seas turned to blood - 100% of all living creatures died
Revelation 16:3 "The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died."
-
"on the sea" - Scripture reminds us that the world itself was formed by God’s word and brought forth from water. Because creation exists by His command, He also has authority to judge it. The seas that once sustained life can be turned into instruments of judgment when humanity persists in rebellion.
-
2 Peter 3:3-5 "3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. 4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water."
-
-
"turned into blood" - like the coagulation of blood caused by decay
-
The first plague of blood on Egypt
-
Exodus 7:17-21 "17 This is what the Lord says: By this you will know that I am the Lord: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. 18 The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.’” 19 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood.’ Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in vessels of wood and stone.” 20 Moses and Aaron did just as the Lord had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood. 21 The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt."
-
-
3RD BOWL - ON FRESHWATER
Unlike the Exodus plagues where the Egyptians were able to dig wells outside of the Nile River for fresh water, all fresh water is turned to blood as a consequence for the blood of martyrs spilled by the beast and his followers. The 3rd Trumpet was a foreshadow of the 3rd Bowl.
-
3rd Trumpet: 1/3 of drinking water turned bitter
-
3rd Bowl: All drinking water turned to blood
Revelation 16:4-7 "4 The third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5 Then I heard the angel in charge of the waters say: “You are just in these judgments, O Holy One, you who are and who were: 6 for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.” 7 And I heard the altar respond: “Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments.”
-
During the Exodus plagues, the Egyptians were still able to dig wells and find fresh water despite the Nile turning to blood. In the third bowl judgment, however, the rivers and springs themselves become blood. The judgment is total and directly tied to the bloodshed of God's people.
- Exodus 7:24 "And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river."
- "just in your judgments" - includes an explicit declaration from heaven explaining why this judgment occurs. The angel over the waters proclaims that God is just because those who shed the blood of His saints are now given blood to drink. The punishment mirrors the crime.
- Galatians 6:7–8 "7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life."
- "drink as they deserve"
- Romans 12:19 "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord." (from Deuteronomy 32:35)
- Revelation 6:10 "They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”
4TH BOWL - ON THE SUN
After the flood, God promised that the world would never again be destroyed by water (Genesis 9:11). Scripture later reveals that the final judgment will instead come through fire, purging the earth of sin and rebellion. The 4th Trumpet had elements of the 4th Bowl.
-
4th Trumpet: Sun darkened (Revelation 8:12)
-
4th Bowl: Sun intensified (Revelation 16:8)
Revelation 16:8-9 "8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him."
-
"scorch people with fire" - The Day of the Lord is repeatedly described as a time of burning judgment against evil.
-
Deuteronomy 32:22 "For a fire will be kindled by my wrath, one that burns down to the realm of the dead below. It will devour the earth and its harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains."
-
Malachi 4:1 "Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire,” says the Lord Almighty. “Not a root or a branch will be left to them."
-
2 Peter 3:11-12 "11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat."
-
-
"intense heat" - Throughout Scripture, fire and burning heat often symbolize the intensity of God's wrath against sin.
- 2 Kings 23:26 "26 Nevertheless, the Lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger, which burned against Judah because of all that Manasseh had done to arouse his anger."
- 2 Chronicles 29:10 "10 Now I intend to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his burning anger will turn away from us."
- "God, who had control over these plagues" - These passages also emphasize that these plagues are not random natural disasters. God Himself controls the judgments that fall upon the earth.
- Isaiah 45:7-9 ""7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things. 8 “You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it. 9 “Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?"
- "they refused to repent" - judgment does not automatically produce repentance. Even when confronted with overwhelming evidence of divine authority, those who follow the Beast refuse to repent.
- Exodus 8:15 "But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the Lord had said."
5TH BOWL - UPON BEAST'S KINGDOM
The fifth bowl directly targets the kingdom of the Beast. Rather than striking the natural world, this judgment falls upon the center of the Beast’s political and spiritual authority. The 5th Trumpet was a foreshadow of the 5th Bowl.
-
only people suffering were those with the mark of the beast
-
5th Trumpet: Demonic torment with a pain that does not produce death
-
5th Bowl: Darkness over the Beast's kingdom only with agony and continues suffering
Revelation 16:10-11 "10 The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and its kingdom was plunged into darkness. People gnawed their tongues in agony 11 and cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, but they refused to repent of what they had done."
-
"on the throne of the beast and its kingdom" - The “throne of the Beast” likely represents the center of his authority and government associated with ten rulers or kingdoms that give their authority to the Beast, rather than a single physical throne.
- Daniel 2:40-43 "40 Finally, there will be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron—for iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others. 41 Just as you saw that the feet and [10] toes were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so this will be a divided kingdom; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. 42 As the [10] toes were partly iron and partly clay, so this kingdom will be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so the people will be a mixture and will not remain united, any more than iron mixes with clay.
- Daniel 7:23-24 "23 “He gave me this explanation: ‘The fourth beast is a fourth kingdom that will appear on earth. It will be different from all the other kingdoms and will devour the whole earth, trampling it down and crushing it. 24 The ten horns are ten kings who will come from this kingdom. After them another king will arise, different from the earlier ones; he will subdue three kings."
- Revelation 17:12-13 "12 “The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast."
- "plunged into darkness" - The darkness recalls the ninth plague of Egypt, when thick darkness covered the land. In Revelation the darkness falls specifically upon the kingdom of the Beast, symbolizing both physical suffering and the collapse of his authority.
- Exodus 10:21–23 "21 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness spreads over Egypt—darkness that can be felt.” 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. 23 No one could see anyone else or move about for three days. Yet all the Israelites had light in the places where they lived."
- Mark 13:24 "24 “But in those days, following that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;."
- "gnaw their tongues" - due to the intense pain caused by the earlier plagues, especially the sores of the first bowl.
- "they refused to repent" - The judgment continues to expose the depth of human rebellion against the Creator."
6TH BOWL - UPON EUPHRATES RIVER

The 6th Trumpet was a foreshadow of the 6th Bowl.
-
included the great river Euphrates
-
a releasing of demonic forces
-
involves an army
-
global conflict and battle of Armageddon
-
3 plagues of fire, smoke and sulfur v. 3 impure spirits
Revelation 16:12-15 "12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East. 13 Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14 They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty. 15 “Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”
-
"the great river Euphrates ... dried up" - marks the eastern boundary of Israel and the Roman world. Prophecy foretold this event:
-
Isaiah 11:15 "The Lord will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that anyone can cross over in sandals."
-
Jeremiah 50:38 "A drought on her waters! They will dry up. For it is a land of idols, idols that will go mad with terror."
-
Zechariah 10:11 "They will pass through the sea of trouble; the surging sea will be subdued and all the depths of the Nile will dry up. Assyria’s pride will be brought down and Egypt’s scepter will pass away."
-
-
"demonic spirits that perform signs" - A spiritual deception leading to a military conflict. The spiritual battle and physical battle will be fought over Jerusalem when Jesus descends from the 3rd Heaven. The Temple Mount will be raised up high.
-
Acts 1:10-11 "10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
-
Zechariah 14:1-11 "A day of the Lord is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls. 2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him. 6 On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. 7 It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light. 8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter. 9 The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name. 10 The whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up high from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place. 11 It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure."

"stay awake" - means "be prepared."
WHAT IS ARMAGEDDON?

Revelation 16:"Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon."
-
"Armageddon" - the Greek "Ἁρμαγεδών" has been transliterated from Hebrew "Har-Magedon" and it is interpreted as "mount of Megiddo", but there is no mountain in this location.
-
There is an apostrophe in front of the "A". The " ' " in front of "A" is the Greek form of "h" since there is no "h" in the Greek alphabet.
-
"A" is the "a"
-
"ρ" is the "r"
-
-
Together "Ἁρ" means "Har", not "Ar"
-
"har" in Hebrew means "mountain" or "mount". "הַר" is the "h" and "r"
-
-
"μα" - Greek "mu" or "m" and stands for ""ma".
-
the Hebrew for "m" is "mem" or "מ" and has the value of "40".
-
-
"γε" - Greek "gamma" or "g" and stands for "ge"
-
the Hebrew for "g" is either "ג" as "gimel" or a transliteration of "ע" for "ghayn", which is not an original Hebrew letter, but an Arabic letter used in older Hebrew that produces a different "ghe" sound. This transliteration is used in the words "Gomorrah" and "Gaza". Current Hebrew uses "ע" as"ayin". It has the value of "3"
-
-
"δών" - Greek "delta" or "d" and stands for "don"
-
the Hebrew for "d" is "dalet" or "ד" and has the value of "4".
-
-
Together "μαγεδών" means "magedon"; "mgd" was assigned to the city of "megiddo" since it is fairly close to Jerusalem and sounds similar. Megiddo is a plain with a "Tel" or "city" built up on a mound or hill, not a geographic feature.
-
Joshua 12:21 "21 the king of Taanach ... one; the king of Megiddo ... one"
-
"Megiddo" in Hebrew "מְגִדֹּ֖ו" or "megiddov" is from the Hebrew "גָּדַד" or "gadad" means "to assemble, to gather, to press into or cut, to penetrate"
-
-
-
One alternative interpretation is that any reference to Megiddo would pertain to the area of staging for the vast armies that are sent to destroy Jerusalem, not the actual place of battle.
-
Joel 3:2 "I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat [Kidron Valley between the Temple Mount and Mount of Olives]. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land."
-
Revelation 19:19 "Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army."
-
-
Another alternative interpretation is to "מעד" or "mgd", which in Hebrew "מוֹעֵד" means "assembly". Is there a mount of assembly? "har-mo'ed" or "הַר־מוֹעֵד" is "mount of assembly" or "Jerusalem" or Mount Zion where the Temple was built and the Hebrews assembled to worship God the Father.
-
Deuteronomy 5:22 "These are the commandments the Lord proclaimed in a loud voice to your whole assembly there on the mountain from out of the fire, the cloud and the deep darkness; and he added nothing more. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.
-
Isaiah 14:13 "You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain [or of the north, or Mount Zaphon."
-
Psalm 82:1 "God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the “gods”:"
-
Hebrews 12:18-25 "18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 25 See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

Satan, through the Anti-Christ, will seek to rule the world from the place were God's seat of power would be, but Jesus Christ will rule from Jerusalem.
-
Psalm 2:2-6 "2 The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, 3 “Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. 5 He rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, 6 “I have installed my king on Zion, my holy mountain.”
-
Isaiah 2:2-4 "In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. 3 Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” The law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples..."
-
Ezekiel 40:2-5 "2 In visions of God he took me to the land of Israel and set me on a very high mountain, on whose south side were some buildings that looked like a city. 3 He took me there, and I saw a man whose appearance was like bronze; he was standing in the gateway with a linen cord and a measuring rod in his hand. 4 The man said to me, “Son of man, look carefully and listen closely and pay attention to everything I am going to show you, for that is why you have been brought here. Tell the people of Israel everything you see.” 5 I saw a wall completely surrounding the temple area..."
-
Micah 4:7 "I will make the lame my remnant, those driven away a strong nation. The Lord will rule over them in Mount Zion from that day and forever."

7TH BOWL - IN THE AIR
Revelation 16:17-18 "17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.
-
same phenomena of lightning, thunder and earthquakes:
-
throne room (Revelation 4:5)
-
7th Seal (Revelation 8:5)
-
7th Trumpet (Revelation 11:19)
-
-
"poured out his bowl into the air" - The bowl is poured into the air, the realm Scripture associates with the spiritual powers that influence the world. Satan is called “the ruler of the kingdom of the air,” suggesting that this final judgment strikes at the spiritual authority behind the Beast’s earthly kingdom.
-
Ephesians 2:1-2 "1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient."
-
Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
-
-
"It is done!" - Just as this type of declaration was made at the creation of the world and the moment salvation was established by Jesus on the cross, this represents the final decree from heaven of God's judgment against evil.
-
Genesis 2:1–2 "1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work."
-
John 19:30 "When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit."
-
We will see the remaining affects of the 7th Bowl as it is poured out upon Babylon the Great in Revelation 16:19-21 (See The Winepress of Judgment)
The bowls move from bodily affliction, to the collapse of the seas and fresh waters, to cosmic disturbance, to darkness over the Beast’s kingdom, to the gathering of the nations, and finally to the decree, “It is done.” Together they portray the unraveling of the rebellious world order under the direct authority of God. What began as deception, idolatry, and persecution ends in exposure, judgment, and irreversible collapse.
